KNRD WATER RESOURCES PROGRAM
Water Quality Monitoring
Protecting and improving our water quality starts with good data. The KNRD Water Quality monitors 42 sites on 11 tributaries to the Pend Oreille River. The following parameters are measured:
- pH
- temperature
- turbidity
- Dissolved Oxygen
- Stream Flows
- Macro Invertebrates
Testing Snow
Snow Course Data
The annual snowpack helps to determine the volume of fresh cold water that will fill our streams and rivers in the spring. Our Water Quality Team assists the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) in gathering snow pack data through a snow course. A snow course is a permanent measurement transect where the snowpack’s depth and water content are measured at the same locations month after month, and year after year. This manually collected data supplements the automated SNOTEL records and helps the NRCS better model the amount of spring runoff we can expect.
